Mary-Rose was born with a congenital heart defect (CHD) and has experienced three open-heart surgeries over the course of her life. The first at 12 months old and the third only recently, in her 30s. 

Understandably, Mary-Rose admits that she has experienced a lot of trauma and anxiety related to her condition. 

Through the program led by Dr. Nadine Kasparian, and funded by donors like you, Mary-Rose was able to access counselling before her most recent operation. 

“I think that because I was in such a strong mental state, I’ve recovered quite well,” Mary-Rose says, post-surgery, “I’m aware of different support groups, which is amazing. Kids like me didn’t have that.”
